Virtual serial cable

Unread post by SM0MDG »

Hi,

After many years with Mac as my primary work PC I am now playing with it in the shack too. I am trying to make it work with my SunSDR2 QRP transceiver using a virtual serial connection between the logger and the radio's control softare. It kinda works as I am able to update the logger with the tuned frequency by doing a reset of CAT, but RUMlog does not automatically follow the radio. In my setup I am using AirconsoleOSX to create a "virtual nullmodem cable". This setup works fine with MacLogger and fldigi, but not with RUMlog. The CAT protocol of SunSDR2 PRO is compatible TS-480. All ideas welcome!

As far as I know, the TS-480 uses RTS/CTS for flow control. See the CAT manual.

I tried with and without RTS/CTS flow control, neither works.

It works well when controlling the radio using flrig (and MacLogger), what could be different in the setup with RUMlog? I am not so familiar with flrig, but can I use flrig as a gateway between the radio and RUMlog?

Or maybe something with AirconsoleOSX is not working the way RUMlog expects. Are there other virtual serial emulators for Mac that I can test?

Can I use flrig as a work around, is it possible to access flrig with the logger while it is controlling the radio?

Is it not working in both directions? Can you set the trx from RUMlog?

I see the transceiver in RUMlog and when I click the band map the transceivers frequency moves there. So it kinda work when I "push it" by using reset CAT. But RUMlog doesn't follow the TRX.

I tried an alternate solution by hooking up a TS-590S via USB to the Macbook. It works the same way. Initially I had the same problem, but when double clicking a spot the problem was resolved. Very strange. Unfortunately this "trick" doesn't work with the TS480 compatible SDR TRX.

RUMlog uses the AI2; (Auto Info) command to fetch trx data. Is this command implemented in your emulation?

That seem to be the problem. The SDR software doesnt support the autoinfo command.

Any possible workaround?

Hello group

I have a Sunsdr2Pro as well and have encountered the same issue connecting to Rumlog. The computer is an I5 27" Imac running Mac OS Sierra. In my case I am using two usb to serial adapters with their tx-rx lines cross connected together.

I am only able to force a frequency update in Rumlog by selecting the reset cat #1 command.

Has there been any solution found to the lack of an autoinfo command in the Sunsdr2Pro protocol?

Thanks for any help.
