CAT Keying IC-705 via RUMlogNG from fldigi

Unread post by Terry - KD8RGJ »

Hello,

I am using RUMlogNG (ver 5.9) as a CAT control for IC-705 via a serial interface (IC-705 USB A). RUMlog is configured to share TX#1 data with Fldigi (ver 4.1.23) and to be used for PTT switching by fldigi. Almost everything seems to work fine (frequency info, mode info, receive audio) except for the following:

I am not able to successfully KEY CW via RUMlog from Fldigi. Sending from fldigi DOES assert/de-assert PTT correctly but no code is keyed. DTR/RTS Keying does work via the secondary USB connection of the IC-705. Also, RUMlog does key CW successfully. Does anyone have any experience with "CAT keying" via RUMlog? If so, can you share how to configure Fldigi and/or RUMlogNG to do so?

Thanks & 73

RUMlog can key the trx
Fldigi can key the trx
Fledgi can not key the trx via RUMlog.

I don't understand your intentions. Just let your fingers talk.

Hi Tom,

Thank you for your response.

I was under the impression that FLDIGI was able to control the CW KEY DOWN and KEY UP as well as PTT by commanding (or passing CAT commands through) RUMlog. This is based on (mis) interpretation of FLDIGI Modem/CW/CAT keying configuration screen. However, as you have stated this is not possible.

It is my understanding that you should only have one CAT connection a given radio at a time. Is that correct? If so, that takes away the option of setting up FLDIGI for CAT control as RUMlog integration is of primary importance and I do not want to continually reconfigure applications. Therefore, it seems that the only other way of controlling the CW keyer in the IC-705 is using DTR/RTS.

Would you recommend a different way to integrate the IC-705 with RUMlogNG and FLDIGI (or other solution)? Specifically for CW and RTTY control using those modes of the radio? It would be great if RUMlogNG / 2Go or SDR Control added CW decode and/or a RTTY terminal keyboard :-)

Thank you for your time and your great applications for Mac/IOS.
