RumlogNG, Fldigi and TS-590 - won't transmit

Unread post by AG7AB »

I have RumlogNG working great with my TS-590 using CAT via the USB port. Tuning, CW transmission, logging. All is great. Now I am trying to get Fldigi to work with this. I have the interface mostly working. CAT interface from RL is fine, reception via USB audio is working, PTT via CAT command works, but I can't get it to transmit using PSK31. The rig goes into transmit, but no transmitted power is indicated on the 590. I have the 590 options set to use USB audio and have tried different audio input levels. Searching for solutions, I see that the 590 requires a CAT TX1 command rather than TX0 to tell it to use the USB audio rather than the Mic audio. Does RL send the TX1 command when getting a PTT request from Fldigi? Any other suggestions are much appreciated.

RUMlog issues always the CAT command TX1; for PTT on when using the TS-590 selection.
Make sure you have configured RL to use CAT PTT, not DTR nor RTS.

Thanks for the confirmation, Tom. Yes, PTT is set to "TRX CAT". I'll continue to investigate.

Here you can find a tool which may be helpful for CAT trouble shooting: https://dl2rum.de/RUMlogNG/TCP2Serial.zip
It has to sit in the middle between RUMlog and your TRX. You connect RL to this app via tcp/ip.

OK, red face here. As we say, it was an ESO problem (Equipment Smarter than Operator). Found I had the computer sound output volume turned down all the way. That was intentional, since I thought that would only affect the speaker output, but apparently affects the USB output level as well. it's all working now. Except now I need to get the logging script working. Also having fldigi crash a lot. This is the latest 4.1.19, but doesn't seem very stable to me.
