CW spacing in contest mode

Unread post by SM0MDG »

I am testing out RUMLog with my TS-590S with keying using TRX. I have setup the F1 to F8 keys with my standard contest messages. When using ESM everything works fine except when a station answer me and I come back to him with <HIS CALL> I get spacing between every character in his call sign. This only happen in ESM mode, not when sending his call via the programmed F5 key.

Is this a feature or bug? If a feature, how can I turn it off?

This isn't a bug, but this function won't work on a Kenwood due to limitations in Kenwoods CAT protocol. A special feature on HISCALL is the possibility to edit the callsign after starting the transmission unless the character to edit isn't sent yet.
These CW functions were designed for a Winkeyer.

That makes sense. I just have to use a winkeyer then.

Hooked up the WInKeyer (happy I brought one). In ESM mode only the first character of the call is sent. In ESM OFF it jumps directly to F3/TU after entering a call and pressing ENTER. I am using the wrong macro? <HIS CALL>?

Make sure you have selected Serial echo back in the Preferences.

Thanks, that works fine! RTFM :)

Here is something I noticed. Most contest loggers lets you toggle between the call and exchange window using space. With RUMlog use I can advance from call to exchange with space, but not the other way around. Could this be something to put on the wish list? For most contesters I guess this is a trained behaviour programmed into your spine.

You can toggle back to the callsign field using the space bar only, when the received report is just a single word. When the received exchange number can have multiple parts (i.e. 001 JO40) the space is used as delimiter between the control numbers.

I have the same problem, I checked all the settings (serial echoback), but when I try to start "call + exchange" with the return key only the first letter starts, when I use F2 or F5 the whole message starts.
i use winkeyer k1el
Where am I doing wrong?
