USB port hangs when used as winkey with RUMlogNG

Unread post by M0SFR »

Hi there,

First of all, a fantastic logger, ticks all boxes in my requirements and gives me new hopes to abandon Windows completely.
Works fine with Fldigi (a big plus) and has an overall comfortable and perfectly laid out GUI. Big thank-you to the author,
this is a quality contribution to Ham software, real service to our community.

Now to the bad news. I have discovered an interesting phenomenon with the latest RUMlogNG. If I activate Winkey
in RUM log and give it its serial USB port the keyer works for a few seconds and then hangs (even the paddle stops working)
requiring a disconnect/reconnect on the plug. After one or two of such disconnects/reconnects, and the USB socket becomes...
completely unusable. You cannot plug anything in it, not even the webcam. This is remedied by a reboot.

Interestingly, it is the PHYSICAL USB circuit that gets confused, not just the actual keyer device. SO if I plug my Winkeyer USB
to any other USB socket on my latest Mac mini (2014) the behaviour repeats itself: first it works a little, then hangs
then, after re-plugging the cable, that other USB socket becomes unusable until a reboot.

Because it is a mini 2014, all USB sockets are of the USB3 standard. My Sierra is the latest version: 10.12.6

I do very much want to use RUMlogNG, a perfect match to my requirements, but... I can't!..

Please, please help.

I don't know what a USB chip is used in your Winkey, but you should update the driver.
